Course Outline VCE English Units 3 and 4
In Unit Three there are three Outcomes that have to be met satisfactorily to pass the unit. They are the following:
Outcome 1: Reading and Responding
- This outcome requires you to develop analytical skills that will be used to show how a text constructs meaning, conveys ideas and values and is open to a range of interpretations.
- The text used to demonstrate this outcome in George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty Four.
SAC taken in week 6 in class under exam conditions.
Outcome 2: Creating and Presenting
- For this outcome you will need to write a text or a series of shorter texts that discuss ideas and arguments presented by the text selected for the chosen Context.
- You will need to write for a specific purpose and audience and adjust your language and structure accordingly
- You must write a detailed statement of intention for your work
- We have chosen the Context 'Encountering Conflict' and the text in unit three will be Kate Grenville's 'Secret River'
Outcome 3: Using Language to Persuade

This outcome requires you to demonstrate an ability to analyse and use a range of persuasive techniques and to present a sustained and detailed point of view on a selected issue chosen by the college.
